John Slater began his journey in photography at a young age and has never looked back, he worked as a darkroom technician before assisting various photographers in London picking up a multitude of skills, which have been the backbone of his career.
Beginning his solo career in large format still-life John worked on various commissions ranging from Out of Home posters for Harp Lager to point of sale literature and collateral for companies like Gallagher, Transport for London and the Forensic service, coupled with major publishing houses, including Penguin and Random House, where he also began shooting portraits. John even developed a print process involving Lith film which offered up a fresh new original image style.
John is just as happy working in a studio or on location, his more recent work, both still-life and people is a clever balance of ‘reality’ and ‘considered’. Clients are always interested in his ability to capture the moment.
John now lives in the West Country, where he has two sons and two dogs. He is keen to bring is knowledge to local business and he has begun to shoot for clients in Devon, working on various visual marketing campaigns, within the hospitality industry and farming businesses, for instance Sharphams Cheese and Mole Valley Farmers, with local advertising agencies.
John’s more recent clients include Eurostar, Santander Bank, Market, Proctor and Gamble, White and Case lawyers and Navigators Insurance.
